The client onboarding checklist every freelancer should steal
The gap between a signed proposal and real work starting is where most freelance projects quietly lose a week. Not because anyone is slow, but because nobody wrote down what has to happen.
Start with a welcome step. One short message that says what happens next and roughly how long it takes. Clients relax when they can see the shape of the thing.
Then collect everything in one pass: the kickoff questionnaire, brand files, access to the tools you need, and the billing details. Asking once is faster than asking four times, and it makes you look like you've done this before — because you have.
Finish with a milestone your client can see. 'Kickoff call booked' or 'Ready to start' gives them a finish line, and gives you a clean moment to begin.
